Restoration of the historic house was the vision of Richard and Patricia Heaton, the original innkeepers of the Woldert-Spence Manor. Restoration starts with a vision.....and then reality sets in!! Because this home had been vacant and abandoned for so long, the interior required a complete restoration, as well as part of the exterior. The Heatons’ main goal was to preserve and bring back the original architectural elements of the home. They completely replaced old electrical and plumbing systems, restored dozens of windows and 56 doors, and repaired or replaced moldings, hardware, and light fixtures. The central heating and air conditioning system was installed for the first time. And the list goes on.....insulation, drywall (over the original shiplap walls), cabinetry, tiled floors, restoration of hardwood floors, reglazing of antique claw-foot tubs, addition of new appliances, landscaping, fences, roofs, decks, arbor, gazebo, spa, gutters, private parking lot and signage. Always scraping, sanding, caulking, and painting! Then, once it's all done, you’ve got to furnish it! It was truly accomplished by the grace of God!
